Regeneration Using Your Own Cells

Platelet rich plasma therapy at Skin Haven Aesthetics Whitsundays is performed in our Airlie Beach clinic by a registered nurse. This treatment uses the body’s own platelets to support skin regeneration, texture improvement and general skin quality over time.

Uses Concentrated Blood Platelets

PRP is derived from a small sample of your blood. After processing, the concentrated platelets are applied to targeted areas to stimulate collagen and support the skin’s natural repair and regeneration processes.

Suited to Fine Lines and Texture

Clients often seek PRP to assist with dullness, uneven texture, or early signs of ageing. It’s a minimally invasive option that works below the surface over time, rather than offering immediate surface-level changes.

Minimal Downtime Required

PRP treatments typically involve mild redness or swelling but require very little recovery time. Clients return to normal activities quickly, with visible effects gradually developing as the skin responds to platelet stimulation.

How PRP Therapy Works

Following your consultation, a small amount of blood is collected and spun in a centrifuge to isolate the plasma-rich layer. This is then applied to the skin using methods suited to your concerns and comfort level.

Results appear progressively and may continue to improve over several weeks. Most treatment plans include multiple sessions spaced apart to allow for ongoing collagen support.

  • What skin concerns can PRP help with?

PRP therapy is commonly used to address concerns like dullness, rough texture, fine lines and early signs of ageing. Some clients also use it to support under-eye skin quality or to enhance glow. Because the treatment uses your body’s own components, it’s considered a natural option for supporting collagen and cell renewal. Suitability depends on individual skin condition, goals and health history, which are all assessed during a face-to-face consultation before proceeding.

  • How soon will I see results from PRP?

PRP is not designed for instant results. Most clients begin to see subtle changes in skin quality within a few weeks of treatment, with continued improvement over time as collagen production increases. A series of treatments is usually recommended to support optimal results. The timeline and number of sessions vary depending on age, skin health, and treatment area. Your nurse will guide you on what to expect and how to maintain results going forward.

  • Is there any downtime or risk with PRP?

Downtime after PRP is typically mild. You may experience redness, swelling or a sensation of tightness in the treated area, which usually resolves within a day or two. Bruising is possible, particularly if the under-eye area is treated. Because PRP uses your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is extremely low. However, treatment isn’t suitable for everyone. Your medical history will be reviewed to determine if PRP is appropriate and safe for you.

  • What does PRP therapy involve?

PRP therapy begins with collecting a small sample of your blood, which is processed to separate the platelet-rich plasma. This component contains growth factors that may support skin renewal when applied to targeted areas. Once the plasma is prepared, it’s delivered into the skin through a chosen technique—often with minimal discomfort. The procedure is done in-clinic by a registered nurse and typically takes less than an hour, depending on the treatment area and method used.
